TMG’s
Business Travel Account Manager,
Sally Jarratt has experienced
the vibrant and cosmopolitan
capital, Buenos Aires.

The
city of Buenos Aires has the feel of a European city, with
theatres, public buildings and parks. The main artery in
the heart of the city is Avenida 9 de Julio, with twenty lanes
the widest street in the world. Crossing he Avenida 9 de
Julio is the Avenida De Mayo which leads to the Casa
Rosada, where film fans should be to spot the balcony from
which Madonna gave her performance as Eva Peron.
A must see for those interested in the life of Argentina's
most famous premier is the Cemetery of the Recoleta.
More like a miniature town than a cemetery, the rich and
famous of Argentina are buried here in a mixture of ornate
family mausoleums and crumbling tombs. Peer through the
smoked glass doors of the mausoleums and you can get a glimpse
of the caskets inside. Evita lies in the Duarte family
tomb but check the map at the entrance before you try to find
it as you wouldn't want to get lost!
If you are looking for something a little more strenuous, then
why not sign up for a tango class at the Centro Cultural
Ciudad Recoleta. This isn't a show put on for the
tourists but an after work evening class for the locals.
Everyone is made welcome from experts to first timers and you
never know ladies, Antonio Banderas may be giving a master
class!
A cultured night out can be found at the magnificent Teatro
Colon. A range of events are held and the tickets are
very cheap. If you decide to buy tickets for a box,
remember they hold up to six people so either get there early
to get the front row seats or why not pay for all the seats in
the box if you want a romantic interlude?
If you are travelling elsewhere in Argentina then why not take
the coach. Forget National Express, the long distance
coaches in Argentina are the best value for money way for
travelling far and wide overnight. Depending on your
journey, in standard class or semi-cama you may be served a
three course hit meal while watching videos before snoozing
the night away on your seat which becomes a semi-flat
bed. In first class or fully cama, you may have your own
cabin and a seat that becomes a fully flat bed. The only
way to travel!
