Explore
the unknown Namibia in South West Africa and be captivated!
"I
can thoroughly recommend Namibia. The scenery is quite
stunning, the wildlife amazing and value for money
is just incredible. Direct flights from the UK are
available or connections via other African cities,
allowing a 2 centre holiday. Windhoek, the capital,
is a mixture of new and old architecture, interesting
places to shop, street cafes and traditional markets.
There are also some excellent restaurants which offer
local game meat and if you fancy a springbok steak!
Etosha
National Park in the north of the country is a cast
dry area. Because water is so scare the wildlife keeps
close to the water holes allowing fantastic opportunities
for game viewing. The 3 main villages in the park
offer well equipped camp sites with swimming pools
etc. At one site, a floodlit water hole is the evenings
entertainment. Take your beers down to the viewing
area and just wait to see what turns up-it's better
than any TV repeat. We were so privileged to see not
just one but eight rhino the evening we were there!
Swapokmund
is a large town on the coast with a string Germanic
influence. The town is very often clouded in mist
and therefore offers a cool alternative to the heat
of the interior. The town boasts an excellent seafood
restaurant called 'The Tug' which is on the beach
and actually based in an old tug!
If
you like adventurous sports then this is the place
to try quad biking, sandboarding or even sky diving!!
Sossusvlei is the desert area in the south west of
the country with the most incredible high red sand
dunes-the second highest in the world! This ancient
desert is also home to the welwitschia plants which
are hundreds of years old.
If
you prefer to join a safari there are several alternatives
to choose from, or hiring your own car is a viable
option. 4x4 vehicles are widely available, roads are
well maintained and fuel is only 35p a litre. Having
your own transport will allow you greater flexibility
and the freedom to discover this amazing country."
