This
is a country, which offers such amazing contrasts
- stunning beaches, cosmopolitan cities and incredible
wildlife. Trying to see it all is almost impossible
unless you have endless time on your hands but for
those with the traditional couple of weeks it's still
possible to see so much by using internal flights.
You
will arrive into Johannesburg so why not begin your
holiday with a real wow. Fly straight to Kruger for
a few days' wildlife viewing in the country's largest
National Park, which contains the world's greatest
variety of wildlife species.
Depending
on how adventurous you feel you can either choose
to do a camping safari or stay in some of the luxurious
lodges in the park. Wherever you decide to stay, beware
of the local baboons who are very inquisitive...you
may find one in your room!
The
great advantage about actually staying in the park
is that you get to go on game drives at different
times of the day. Most wildlife will hunt at night
and sleep during the heat of the day so in order to
experience the most during your stay, early morning
and night drives are essential. Unlike East Africa,
game drives are conducted in open vehicles, which
allows everyone to have a great view and no heads
in your photos!
Sun
City is only a short drive from Jo'burg airport and
is a real oasis of relaxation so an ideal place to
spend a few days after those early morning game drives.
If you have taken your golf clubs, there are a choice
of courses to play n or just take it easy around the
pool before you hit the casino in the evening.
The
flight from Jo'burg to the stunning city of Cape Town
is only a couple of hours away. Everyone enjoys their
stay in this lively city, wander around the Victoria
and Alfred Waterfront where there are lots of shops
and cafes and it's always a place where something
is going on. There are so many places to choose for
dinner that you will find it difficult to make a decision,
but a 3 course dinner with wine will cost about £10
each.
Of
course you haven't visited Cape Town unless you have
gone to the top of the Table Mountain. Take the cable
car up more than 3,000 feet for a breathtaking view.
One of the most popular trips to take is to Robben
Island which is now of great historical importance
and a cultural heritage site. Ex-prisoners guide you
around the jail and the whole experience is really
quite a moving one.
One
of my favourite areas of South Africa is the famous
winelands. Pick up a car and only an hour out of Cape
Town finds you at the edge of the region. It is certainly
worth spending a few days in this area, especially
if you enjoy drinking New World wines, as there are
no less than 315 wineries to choose from!
Stellenbosh
is a great place to base yourself, with so many great
wineries and restaurants in the area. Both Namibia
and South Africa are only 11 hours flying time from
UK and with only 1 or 2 hours time difference, you
wont suffer with jetlag.
