Resort
of the month:
Marsa Matruh, Egypt
Move over Sharm El Sheikh, there is a new Egyptian
resort on the map... Marsa Matruh.
Situated on the Egypt's Mediterranean coast, this
beachside town has always been a favourite holiday
destination for Egyptians but over the last few
years it has been slowly redeveloped with upmarket
hotels and international restaurants to attract
overseas holiday makers.
There is much more development planned for the future
such as a waterpark, shopping centre and golf course,
but for now Marsa Matruh still remains a traditional
Egyptian town with bazaar's and markets selling
anything from spices to carpets. There are many
beaches but probably the most popular is said to
be where Cleopatra used bathe hence its name, Cleopatra's
Beach.
Around the town can get very busy especially in
the summer so if you want to escape the hustle and
bustle then head to the quieter and calmer Almaza
Bay which has a few hotels and idyllic beaches.
Prices
start from £626pp for 7 nights all inclusive.
